Impossible? III : Future City I

The fantastical visions of such studios as Archigram in the 60's are actually making a small comeback due to enormous accumulation of wealth and advances in transportation tech. Both Dallas and Dubai are entertaining the idea of on demand VTOL air taxis, opening up the sky as the new modern transportation landscape. Fantastical as it may sound, the long fabled highway frontier is coming to a city near you, and thanks to partnerships with Uber, the VTOL programs are gaining traction. As cool as this future city may sound, I see it as threatening to the sustainable design field, as it is far flashier and more distracting that a vespa made of composite, not to mention that very few things on earth can fly, let alone transport passengers without tremendous expenditure of fuel. This would be a new form of pollution in more ways than one, and is something I am not eager to see gracing the skies any time soon, no matter who is paying for it.
