Robots V : Design for Robots

The age of automation has dawned, robots are coming for all of our jobs, and even our gear shifters have been taken right from under our noses, soon it won't be a friendly stranger you're entrusting your life to in the front of that Uber, but a cool and calculating machine. With automated cars apparently comes a much needed overhaul for a 105 year old system of traffic control. The traffic light is but one cog in a monstrously overgrown and rickety consumer powerhouse of the automobile, if the internal combustion engine needs a makeover, perhaps the first step in rebranding car culture could be simple giving the rules of the road a fresh coat of paint. This Russian designer is attempting to make driving safer and easier to understand for humans and robots with a new set of graphic street signs, using bold and diagrammatic visuals in place of the traditional cryptic colored circles. This just goes to show that reimagining design can be applied anywhere, and that even a behemoth like automotive transport can be instructed to turn, like the titanic, one degree at a time.
