I have been coming across so many interesting projects by Waarmakers studio recently, one of which I mentioned in a previous post, that I have decided to devote this week's post to two more of their interesting eco friendly designs. This is a powerfully simple product, which was conceived as a way of reusing the studio's own wasted cardboard rolls from their printing. Another design that could have been fabricated in our own school, this is a laser cut cardboard tube that is capped with cork and filled with a lighting element and the necessary electrical components to transform the packaging into an elegant and biodegradable lighting fixture upon arrival. So accustomed to disposable packaging am I that I could barely believe the title of the article, and was only convinced upon visiting this site and looking at their diagrams there. This is such a powerful idea in itself : packaging is product. Eliminating packaging from product delivery is a huge step in reducing the impact of the consumer society in a developed country, and this design goes above and beyond by creating something both functional and attractive, bringing reduce reuse recycle directly into the home, literally lighting the way to a sustainable future.
