If virtual reality can allow us to experience spaces of future or imaginary worlds, perhaps an even more practical or useful application is to allow us to experience or even preserve places of the past virtually. Using only conventional drawings, this unbuilt case study house by Whitney Smith can now be inhabited by anyone. This opens doors for students especially, who can now experience what it may be like to visit iconic works of architecture that may otherwise be inaccessible, all without disturbing the owners or paying a tour fee, not to mention how valuable it may prove if such masterworks are ever lost to time or natural disaster. As long as the internet is still up, great works and even unrealized works may continue to live on and inform generations of new designers. I also just find this company, Achilogic to be really interesting, as a third party they will model and animate your floor plans, creating a powerful visualization tool for someone who does not have the time or expertise to animate their own designs.
