Virtual reality has taken the tech world by storm this year especially, and is definitely making an impact on the practice of architecture. When the work of an architect is largely to represent the design of a space to the consumer prior to their experience of it, actually allowing a client to experience the design in a virtual setting is a no brainer. Practical applications aside, virtual reality also allows us to inhabit such obscure and odd spaces as this one. Breaking down the Millennium Falcon as an architectural resolution of a circular floor plan is something I never would have though about, and yet when designing the set, someone had to. Every space within this machine was designed, but the fruits of those labors, like much of architecture, is background, 99% invisible. That is why I find this 3D tour so interesting, it allows you to inhabit the space of a beloved movie set not only as a character or an actor, but also to step into the shoes of the set designer.
