This solution is more complex than the previous, yet solves a much more difficult problem. Like most sighted people, I cannot imagine a life without color, without light. To be blind for me would mean to be nonfunctioning.
Not only does this product solve a global issue, but it expands the world of the blind far beyond what was previously imaginable. Even more interesting to be is the way that this product essentially echoes one sense with the other. By translating all visual information into sound, a blind person can more effectively navigate the world. Much of the work of an architecture student is to communicate what could have been lengthy verbal ideas into visuals, the exact opposite or parallel of this product. How much can our consumption of information be enhanced by translating and augmenting one sense with information that would be traditionally or naturally communicated by another? This reminds of of synesthesia. The fusing of sense is a new frontier in design, entertainment, and communication.
