Innovations in E-Ink

I, like you, spend quite a lot of time every day staring at a backlit display as it shoots light into my eyes. Not only is this exhausting for my poor retinas, but I feel like it can't be good for me. I was totally spellbound when I saw my first kindle E-Ink display, and was sad to learn that they later phased the technology out of their flagship E-readers. The other day as I sat for hours in a dark room in front of a bright monitor and glanced wistfully at a tiny window letting in some natural light, I thought, why can't my monitor be like my old kindle? I did a little research and found that although the technology isn't quite there, color E-Ink is a thing. Refresh rates are slow, but display is already high quality and colors are robust. It will probably take a decade, but someday I hope I can update my website from a coffee shop patio somewhere in full sun on my color e-ink laptop, as if I were reading a magazine. In the meantime, its good to know that the technology is still being explored, like in this sony watch prototype:
